Coachman`s Dinner & Pancake House in Salt Lake City

The Liver and Onions was terrific! I really wanted to try the lamb bc I've never had lamb but wasn't sure, however the price is what kept me from it. I did go out on a limb & get the Liver and Onions...it was So good. Even my husband was jealous. He got the Roast Beef Dinner.If this is your first visit, tell the server they should be able to give you the rundown on how the menu works. We should've done that this time as it was only our 2nd time & it's been a while.The place is almost like a time warp...I love the old elegant decor & the oldies music. You know you haven't gone back in time bc the patrons are current era & the prices are current. Great place to try at least once...if not daily.

The rolls were freshest item we had. It was pretty decent homestyle cooking. The worst part is having to pay your bill only cash. No cards. They have an ATM right as you walk in. They charge $2.25 to withdraw your own money. I know alot of people who never carry cash. Waitress was pretty friendly.

Great dinner. Each dinner is complete; from soup to dessert. The wait staff is attentive. The food well prepared. We were pleased with our visit.

Always packed. This is the type of place where you’ll find a smoker with a nasal cannula. A real melting pot. Filling portions. A must see when in Salt Lake City.

You dont know good food when you eat it.The food is is very well made.The portons are great for the price.I live in Sandy, Utah and get there as often as possiable.Great food, service, flavor, portion, and waitresses are fantastic.

Been going there fir over 3 decades of decent meals with decent price decent service.Qualith has never duappoibted except the 'fish & chips' meal 2 wks ago was not adequate fish portiin ir quality for price. 1st time in 30 years of dining yi be disappointed seems go I d enuf for me!

It was great and a great value. An extensive menu with something for everyone. Definitely better than any of the chains.

never eaten here until today always pasted by and wanted too. Well I went with my boyfriend and son boy let me tell you something I give it 5 stars because of the steak sandwich I had the steak was mouth watering my boyfriend got chicken fried steak super good also my son got fish and chips english chips they are amazing oh the service there was awesome as well very friendly nice and down home feel type of place I so loved it cant waitto go back and try the breakfast.

We had a lovely lunch..but the crab salad is not what it should be. Don't eat it unless its fresh. Otherwise wonderful place.

FANTASTIC restaurant! They just don't make em like this anymore. The perfect American diner. And when I say American I mean it in the purest sense; everything from burgers to burritos to gyros to seafood. What I love most about this place, apart from the quality of the food, is the fact that it's not a gimmicky eatery. No commercials, no sports theme, no too-busy stuff on the walls. Just a nice place to eat great food in generous portions. Oh, the soup is awesome, too!

BEWARE! They don't take credit cards (they say they like to keep off the 3% credit card fee and keep prices cheap). The service isn't great, the food is honestly pretty bad... I wouldn't recommend coming here and I won't be back. To their credit, the prices are really good... But the prices are just as good as the food quality. I was probably the youngest customer by 20 years...

Our experience was amazing. The sign says come in and you'll pleasantly surprised. Yes, yes we were the atmosphere was great the service was top notch. And the food was spot on. I'll definitely be coming back. Love this place! But bring cash, they do not accept credit or debit cards. But they do have an ATM if ya need it.

This place is constantly busy and it's no wonder because they have great food, and a lot of it, at reasonable prices. The meals and the service are wonderful and they have a great variety of food. They make a wonderful breaded veal which they serve with a cheese sauce you can't find anywhere else. It's my favorite meal. Their soups are to die for. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant.

I drive by this place all the time and I wanted to support a local business.I was blown away. I just had a cheese burger and fries but it was great! The burger came with two patty's and there were a ton of fries. The whole thing was about $8.50 including the tax.Definitely worth a try!

Great as always..Staff Were friendly and very attentive to bringing out water and coffee.. Food was delicious and you get quite a bit of it for the price. I had the steak and shrimp dinner and everything was done perfectly.

The service was horrible! Our server was extremely rude and anytime we asked or needed something it was like we were inconveniencing her.

Such a great old school family atmosphere. The food is always great. This time around we got the cheeseburger, pot pie and chicken fried so delicious. This is the only restaurant that I know of that gives its dinners a free soda, soup, salad AND dessert with them. You will never leave hungry! Not to mention the customer service is phenomenal. Like other reviews mention cash only. But if you forget there is an ATM machine! I will continue to tell everyone about this hidden gem ❤

This place feels like you're in an indie film. It has character. Red velvet walls. A little seedy. Hasn't changed since the day it upended feel. It seems like there would be a pool table and card games in the basement.Our waitress had stories to tell but I don't think I should repeat them.Breakfast all day. Generous portions and unique combinations. I wish I could remember but the menu is pages long. Comfort food. My friends love to eat there after finishing a large project. Corner booth. I'm probably too into healthy, hippie food to visit often but I liked everything I ordered. The service was friendly and seems like family with their customers.A relic from the past that has a steady following. I wonder what's really in the basement. If you need a place for a photoshoot in think the photos would look very retro and you could post them on Instagram and people would wonder where you are.

We were so pleasantly surprised with our experience tonight! I've always been curious, and tonight had the chance to try it out! The service was great, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the food was so good! We will definitely be back!

I have been going here for years. Always have had great food. The menu has something for everyone. I use to get breakfast here all the time and it is and was great. I have been working through the dinners. Love that you get soup and salad with the dinners. You also get a desert! Both dinners and breakfast are very filling. Highly recommend.

You never leave hungry! Classic American diner. Delicious and price is reasonable.

We had an amazing experience here when all the other breakfast places had like an hour wait. This place is seriously huge on the inside! Our waitress was totally amazing! And the food was really good. The only thing is...bring cash because that is all they accept.

Good, classic feeling breakfast house with lots of options. The lights on the I side and custom frosted glass really add a cool vibe.I do wish they played Western music from Marty Robbins or Johnny Cash to keep it going.The food was satisfying and it was not too expensive, although the annoyance was that this place does not accept cards of any form, and wants you to use the ATM to get cash. I understand you don't want to pay bank fees. But at the end of the day, the customer is paying for convenience. Otherwise they would not want a waitress, or you to bring them food. Incorporate the 2% cost to swipe a card into your pricing and get in the 21st century.Overall, not bad. I would go back, but the ATM stuff is annoying.

We were new to town and our son loves pancakes. We had passed this place going to eat dinner and logged it for a future visit. Very glad we did. The food was delicious, very good portions and the cost was amazing. The service was a bit slow due to our visit coming during a busy period but overall this is the place for breakfast or lunch!

Me and my family love this dinner. They have great service great prices and friendly staff. We go almost every Sunday for brunch for the past 10 years

Me and some friends went here and the big old guy at the front was extremely rude. Telling us we couldn’t sit in two groups of four but had to do six and two like that makes any sense. He also was very rude when answering the phone when we were waiting. As we were waiting to be seated as well a lady tried to check out and said she didn’t have cash (which they were demanding) and the man at the front yelled “THERES AN ATM”. I was excited to try this place but was so disappointed as soon as we walked in. Do not eat here

Yummy fresh food. We ate breakfast here. Strawberry pancakes with whipped cream--delicious! Country potatoes, yum! Buttermilk pancakes, fluffy! Generous portions Our server was friendly and efficient. Be mindful that they don't take credit or debit cards. Cash only, or checks. ATM on site.

It was my treat for myself, a friend, the Pastor and his wife as well as the visiting clergyman this day. We prayed over our meal and then dined in surreal peace. We all came away refreshed having first been fed spiritually and then physically. For these things I am grateful. Amen!

One of the first things I wanted to do when I moved to SLC was visit Coachman's and boy am I mad at myself for not doing it earlier. Service was incredible, food was absolutely fantastic with large portions, but manageable enough to eat in one sitting and the prices were unbelievable. Serving breakfast all day, with a great rustic feel to it this is my diner of choice when I'm feeling famished. Give them a visit, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Just in case you haven't heard, they only take cash. That just means there aren't additional fees, but that doesn't matter because the food is crazy delicious.

The owner of this restaurant is extremely rude. Went for dinner today at 5:30. At around 5:45 he went into the kitchen and literally screamed at the top of his lungs for his staff to move faster because the restaurant was getting crowded. The entire restaurant went silent. I had a bird's eye view of the kitchen and the servers and staff were moving quickly and taking care of customer needs before the outburst. Additionally, we were in and out in 45 minutes which is a great indicator of our service speed. Everyone is entitled to a bad day, but to scream at and belittle your employees in front of customers is absolutely uncalled for. I will not be going back to this restaurant because of the owner's abusive treatment of his employees.

My wife and I love Coachmans! Overall, our experience is great, and the food is delicious. We really do get a lot for our money.I do wish they would accept card payment, though, not just cash! Most people nowadays do not carry cash, and some of us do not want to pay an extra fee to use their ATM machine. Whenever we want to come to Coachmans, we do have to stop and pull cash, which is an inconvenience, and also a major reason why we do not eat at Coachmans that often. They're also located close to downtown, which is a bit far from us, but we'd almost not care about that at all if we didn't have to stop to get cash. This issue is a major factor in deciding whether we want to have dinner at Coachmans or not, because of the drive plus the extra stop we have to make before getting there.Regardless, Coachmans is definitely still one of our favorite restaurants.

Oldie but goodie! I've been going to this nostalgic place since I was a kid. The food is wonderful! Music played is definitely a walk down memory lane. I love the minestrone soup it is hands down the Best!! I know many people hate that they only take cash but it's old school and why not it's worth the 10 seconds it takes to go to the atm. The waitresses are always very good, "however my only discrepancy is please start giving straws out at the serving of drinks". My favorite is the New York steak meal and Spumoni ice cream! As well as the sandwiches and salads.

Has always good food moderately cheap. The covid-19 is really at the forefront of this restaurant. Different than their sister restaurant The Other Place.

A walk back into the 1970’s. Love their breakfasts! That is all I have had here. My new favorite. And inexpensive except the ATM fee. I never carry cash...lol

Coachman's is like no other restaurant, where you feel like you have traveled back in time to where service was important, where fresh ingredients were always used, and where you got large portions for a very reasonable price. Even the decor matches that yesteryear feeling. It's a slice out of time. Just be aware they do not accept credit or debit cards—is it cash or check only.

The food is really delicious, a lots of flavor in each meal, soup, and deserve the services was great, for a very low price. Highly recommended.

This is a great little joint in south city. I drive past it every day on my way to work, but just went in a couple weeks ago. It was Shrove Tuesday, and I needed pancakes. This place does not disappoint. Great bacon, hash browns, eggs, and cakes. You should know that this is a cash-only restaurant, so make sure you come prepared with actual money.

Cash only! Good food, cozy and nostalgic atmosphere. Busy hours can lead to lesser service, but waiters are pleasant enough. If you’re looking for a classic diner breakfast this is the place. Let me say again, CASH only. I’ve been several times and I’ve always been satisfied.
